I’m Jiwon Choi, convergence journalist focused on international, investigative stories. I earned a B.A. in media communications from Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea and am currently a master student at the University of Missouri, School of Journalism.
I have been reporting local and national stories and producing multimedia content on Minnesota Public Radio News since June 2018. My previous work has appeared onGlobal Journalist where I produced a weekly radio/TV show on international topics and on The Columbia Missourian, a daily newspaper serving Columbia, Missouri, where I wrote daily/enterprise stories and designing graphics. You can also find my work on Voices of New York, an online daily media focusing on ethnic communities in New York, The New York Ilbo, Korean daily newspaper serving Korean community in New York, and several other publications, where I covered under-reported international and community affairs.
I am a native of South Korea, from Osan, a city located an hour from the Capital, Seoul.; can speak fluent Japanese, English, and beginner-level Chinese; and have studied abroad in Japan, the U.K., and the U.S. I’m proficient in following programs and skills: Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign and Audition, Microsoft Office, Final Cut, Virtual Reality shooting and editing, and interactive infographic tools. I have been recently learning HTML, CSS, SQL, and QGIS.
I enjoy traveling around the world, meeting new people and exploring new culture – I call myself the “travel bug.” I also love singing, reading and cooking.
